GOOD NIGHT

Divyansh’s POV

She said yes.

She actually said yes.

Am I dreaming?

This feeling… I never want it to end.

Today is officially the best day of my life.

She said yes.

For a moment I genuinely felt like dancing around the room like an idiot.

But then another thought hit me.

Now comes the real challenge.

Impressing her brother.

Because that man will soon become my brother-in-law.

I was still lost in that thought when suddenly—

Knock. Knock.

Who could it be at this hour?

I walked toward the door and opened it.

And froze.

“Dadi? Maa? Aap log iss time?”

I looked at them in shock.

“I thought you both had already gone to sleep.”

It was 12 in the night.

My grandmother cleared her throat.

“Actually Divu… baat kya hai ki mujhe Shukla ji ka message aaya tha.”

She walked inside my room.

“Jab maine unhe tumhara bio-data diya toh unhone kaha ki shayad koi misunderstanding ho gayi hai.”

My mother continued the explanation.

“Hum log toh Vivek ke liye ladki dekh rahe the. Aur jo ladki ki photo unhone bheji hai… woh tumse paanch saal badi hai.”

My mother sighed.

“Accha hua tum usse mile nahi abhi tak.”

She placed a hand on my shoulder.

“Tum nirash mat hona beta. Hum tumhare liye aur achhe rishte dhoond lenge.”

For a second I just stared at them.

Did I hear that correctly?

“Aapko kisne kaha ki main usse mila nahi?”

Both of them looked confused.

“Main do baar mil chuka hoon usse.”

Their expressions changed instantly.

“And I already asked her to marry me.”

Silence filled the room.

“So you don’t need to find any more rishtas for me.”

My mother blinked.

“Par… tum usse mile kab?”

I raised an eyebrow.

“Dadi ne hi toh bheja tha mujhe Raise Café.”

“And today we had dinner together.”

My mother looked horrified.

“Par tumne usse shaadi ke liye kaise pooch liya?”

She spoke in disbelief.

“Chhod… mana kar do usse. Woh tumse paanch saal badi hai, Divu.”

She shook her head.

“Tum usse shaadi kaise kar sakte ho?”

Something inside me snapped.

“Maa, main mana nahi kar raha.”

“She’s amazing.”

I took a deep breath.

“Sirf paanch saal hi toh badi hai. Koi crime thodi hai.”

I looked directly at her.

“Agar main usse paanch saal bada hota toh kya aap mana karti?”

My mother stayed silent.

Exactly.

I felt irritation rising inside me.

“Meri khushi zyada der tik jaaye toh logon ko accha thodi lagta hai.”

“Pagal mat bano Divu,” my mother said sternly.

“Practical ho kar socho.”

“Abhi bhi waqt hai. Mana kar do.”

She lowered her voice.

“Papa ko pata chala toh bahut gussa karenge.”

I let out a dry laugh.

“Maa, main do saal ka nahi hoon jo aap papa ki dhamki de rahi ho.”

Then I spoke calmly.

“Aap samajh kyun nahi rahi?”

“Woh bahut acchi hai.”

“Chahe aap lakh ladkiyan dhoond lo… aapko uske jaisi simple, sweet aur mature ladki nahi milegi.”

My grandmother suddenly spoke.

“Rehne do Ridha.”

She looked thoughtful.

“Us ladki se ek baar mil lete hain.”

She crossed her arms.

“Hum bhi toh dekhein kaun hai woh jisne isse apne peeche itna pagal bana diya hai.”

“Maine mujhe pagal nahi banaya hai,” I protested.

“I genuinely like her.”

“At least aap toh samjhiye Dadi.”

She shook her head.

“Mujhe jo samajhna hoga… usse milne ke baad hi samajhungi.”

Then she announced,

“Iss Sunday uski family ko lunch pe bula lo.”

I sighed.

“Thik hai.”

“Aapko jo karna hai kijiye.”

My grandmother turned to my mother.

“Chalo yahan se, Ridha.”

And just like that…

They walked out of my room.

I fell back onto my bed.

God.

Why me?

Just a few moments ago I was practically dancing with happiness.

And now…

I feel like crying.

Just then—

Ping.

My phone lit up.

It was her.

And suddenly my mood improved.

Chat

Avni:

Are you asleep?

Divyansh:

How can I sleep after you said yes?

Avni:

This is not the time to joke.

My brother is insisting on meeting you alone tomorrow.

Divyansh:

Alone? As in just me and him?

Avni:

Yes.

He wants to meet you before the family meeting.

He won’t listen.

Divyansh:

I will definitely meet him.

But honestly I’m a little scared.

When I met my sister’s boyfriend — now husband — I punched him in the face.

So I’m kinda nervous.

Avni:

Relax.

He won’t do anything like that.

He respects me and my choices.

Divyansh:

So I am your choice?

Avni:

Don’t divert the topic, Divyansh.

Just don’t be too stressed or nervous.

I know he will like you.

I smiled at my phone.

Divyansh:

You know… this marriage doesn’t feel arranged anymore.

Meeting your brother like this feels like I’m your boyfriend.

Avni:

I think you really need sleep.

You’re thinking nonsense.

Divyansh:

Are you blushing, Miss Sinha?

Avni:

No I am not.

But you really need good sleep, Mr. Singh.

Divyansh:

You’re already behaving like a caring wife, Ms. Sinha.

Not bad.

Avni:

I’m going.

Goodnight, Mr. Singh.

Divyansh:

As you say, Boss.

Dream of me.

Goodnight.

One small message.

And my mood was instantly better.

There is no way I’m letting her go.

No one can change that.

Not society.

Not my family.

But before all that…

I have to win over my future saale sahab.

“Sleep, Divyansh,” I muttered to myself.

“Kal apne saale sahab se milna hai.”

Avni’s POV

God.

I cannot stop blushing.

How can I?

After Divyansh’s cheesy flirting…

Even though it’s cheesy, I can’t stop imagining his face.

Those dimples.

That silly smile.

Those deep ocean eyes.

“God Avni, calm down,” I whispered to myself.

“What is happening to you?”

“Control.”

“Control.”

Just then—

“Di… why are you smiling like that?”

I looked up.

Avyaan was standing at the door of my room.

“Tujhe knock karna nahi aata kya, bhondu?” I snapped.

“And I was not smiling, okay?”

“Zyada dimag mat chala.”

He smirked.

“Jo aap boliye, malkin.”

Then he folded his arms.

“But haan… us Divyansh ko bata diya na kal milne ke liye?”

He looked serious now.

“Mere approval ke bina shaadi toh kya… usko aapke aas-paas bhatakne bhi nahi dunga.”

I rolled my eyes.

“Thik hai baba.”

“Don’t be so possessive.”

“And haan… zyada aggressive mat hona.”

“He’s a nice man.”

“I don’t want you trying to intimidate him.”

Avyaan nodded dramatically.

“Okay di.”

“Don’t worry.”

Then he grinned.

“Main toh bas goodnight bolne aaya tha.”

“But lagta hai aapki night already kaafi good chal rahi hai.”

He pointed at my phone.

“Jaise aap smile kar rahi thi phone dekh ke.”

“Still… goodnight.”

“Main chala sone.”

“Dhafa ho yahan se,” I muttered.

“Pagal kahin ka.”

He laughed and walked away.

I sighed and lay down on my bed.

What is happening to everyone today?

Sab ko alag hi bhoot chadha hua hai.

But still…

I smiled again.

Damn it.

It is a good night.
