Author’s POV
Some evenings don’t announce their importance.
They arrive quietly—
with tea trays, polite smiles, and conversations that sound normal… but carry the weight of decisions that can change lives.
That evening was one of them.
The Singh house was prepared—not extravagantly, but carefully. Cushions adjusted, table polished, voices lowered.
Because today wasn’t just another family meeting.
It was about deciding whether two lives should officially intertwine.
Avni entered with the same composed grace she carried everywhere.
Simple yet elegant.
Controlled, yet not distant.
Behind her, her chacha walked quietly, hands folded behind his back, observing everything without comment.
Her chachi, Arti, stepped in with a practiced smile—the kind that looked warm but never quite reached the eyes.
Avyaan followed, silent as always, his presence steady, almost protective.
Divyansh noticed everything.
But mostly—
He noticed her.
For a brief second, their eyes met.
No smiles.
No words.
Just a silent acknowledgment—
We made it here.
Settling In
Everyone took their seats.
Tea was served.
The clinking of cups filled the silence that no one wanted to break too quickly.
Small talk began.
Work.
Traffic.
Weather.
Safe topics.
But beneath all of it—
There was tension.
Like a string pulled too tight.
The First Real Move
Vinayak leaned forward slightly, placing his cup down with quiet intent.
“Toh…” he began, voice calm and measured,
“agar sab comfortable hain… toh hum aaj engagement ke baare mein baat kar sakte hain.”
The word engagement settled into the room like a stone dropped in still water.
Ripples.
Invisible—but present.
Ridha’s Pause
Before anyone else could respond, Ridha spoke.
“Thoda waqt le lete hain,” she said softly.
Her tone wasn’t harsh.
But it wasn’t uncertain either.
“Jaldi karne ki zarurat nahi hai.”
Divyansh’s gaze shifted to her.
Not surprised.
But disappointed.
The Subtle Stirring
Arti adjusted her dupatta and nodded slightly.
“Main bhi yahi keh rahi thi,” she added smoothly.
“Shaadi aur engagement… dono hi zindagi ke bade decisions hote hain.”
She looked at Avni.
A faint smile.
“Jaldbaazi mein liya hua decision… baad mein heavy pad sakta hai.”
It was subtle.
But not innocent.
Divyansh noticed.
So did Avni.
Avni Responds
Avni placed her cup down gently.
Her voice was calm.
Controlled.
“I agree.”
Everyone turned toward her.
“I don’t believe in rushing decisions.”
A pause.
Then—
“But unnecessary delay… also creates confusion.”
Her tone didn’t accuse.
It clarified.
And that made it stronger.
Divyansh Steps In
“I think clarity zyada important hai,” Divyansh added.
He leaned slightly forward.
“Maa, agar concern hai… toh usse discuss karte hain.”
“Delay karke avoid karna solution nahi hota.”
Ridha looked at him.
There was something in her eyes—
Not anger.
Something closer to… worry.
The Father’s Balance
Vinayak exhaled slowly.
“Dono sides ki baat sahi hai,” he said.
He glanced at Avni.
Then at Divyansh.
“Toh ek middle ground ho sakta hai.”
The room stilled.
“Hum engagement kar dete hain.”
A pause.
“Shaadi baad mein.”
The suggestion hung there.
Testing reactions.
Dadi Speaks
“Mujhe theek lagta hai,” Dadi said thoughtfully.
“Rishta bhi pakka ho jayega… aur samajhne ka time bhi mil jayega.”
Her voice carried warmth—
But also caution.
Ridha’s Condition
All eyes turned to Ridha.
She sat quietly for a few seconds.
Thinking.
Measuring.
Then finally—
“Thik hai.”
Divyansh’s breath paused.
“Par ek condition hai.”
He straightened slightly.
“Kya?”
Ridha looked at Avni directly.
“Mujhe tumhe samajhne ke liye waqt chahiye.”
“No formality.”
“No pretending.”
“Main dekhna chahti hoon ki tum is ghar mein fit ho paogi ya nahi.”
The words weren’t soft.
But they weren’t cruel either.
They were honest.
Avni’s Answer
Avni met her gaze.
Steady.
Without hesitation.
“That’s fair.”
A simple answer.
But it carried dignity.
And strength.
Arti’s Hidden Discomfort
For a brief moment—
Arti’s expression shifted.
Almost invisible.
She didn’t like this direction.
But she recovered instantly.
“Of course… jo sabko theek lage,” she said with a polite smile.
The Final Decision
Vinayak nodded.
“Toh phir next week engagement?”
A pause.
Then—
“Yes.”
From both sides.
Not loud.
Not celebratory.
But definite.
The Shift
Something changed in the room.
Not complete acceptance.
Not complete resistance.
Something in between.
Like a door slightly opened—
But not fully.
Divyansh’s POV
If life becomes complicated—
You go to the people who knew you before everything got serious.
Rishabh opened the door and looked at me for two seconds.
Then said—
“Lagta hai shaadi fix ho gayi.”
I walked past him.
“Lagta hai tu psychic ho gaya hai.”
Kanika appeared from the kitchen.
“Coffee?” she asked.
“Please,” I replied.
Because right now—
I needed something steady.
The Conversation Begins
“Bol,” Rishabh said, dropping onto the couch.
“Kya scene hai?”
I leaned back.
Exhaled.
“Engagement next week.”
He raised his eyebrows.
“Fast.”
“Complicated.”
Kanika handed me the cup.
“Tell us everything.”
Divyansh Opens Up
“Mujhe woh pasand hai,” I said.
Simple.
Direct.
Rishabh nodded.
“Kitna?”
“Enough to fight my family.”
Silence.
That answer changed the mood.
Kanika Observes
“She must be special,” Kanika said softly.
“She is.”
“Strong?”
“Very.”
She nodded slowly.
“Then listen carefully.”
“Strong women don’t need saving,” she said.
“They need understanding.”
I looked at her.
“She won’t bend easily.”
“Nor should she.”
A pause.
“So if you expect adjustment…”
“Be ready to adjust more.”
That stayed.
About Ridha
“Maa convinced nahi hai,” I admitted.
Rishabh smirked slightly.
“Classic.”
Kanika shook her head lightly.
“No.”
“This is not rejection.”
“This is fear.”
I frowned.
“Fear?”
“She’s scared you’ll get lost in her world.”
“Or that she won’t fit in yours.”
Silence.
That perspective—
Shifted something.
Rishabh’s Advice
“Ek kaam kar,” Rishabh said.
“Hero banne ki zarurat nahi hai.”
“Bas consistent reh.”
“Ladki bhi samjhegi… family bhi.”
Final Line
Kanika smiled softly.
“And don’t make her feel like she has to prove herself.”
“Because if she does…”
“You’ll lose her.”
As I left their house—
Nothing was solved.
But everything was clearer.
And sometimes—
Clarity is more powerful than comfort.
